With Twitch becoming an increasingly popular online streaming platform for gamers, Americas Cardroom took the initiative in engaging users by launching the King of Twitch Poker with a $75,000 giveaway.
Americas Cardroom announced the series on September 30 and promised it would run from October through December. The first game opened on October 2.
Several Twitch celebrities will be acting as satellite figureheads throughout the series. The idea is to give novices the chance to play for free.
However, it does come with a caveat: in order to participate, you need a referral code, which can only be received if you’re active on a Twitch host’s streaming community.
There will also be a $2 rebuy during each MTT, with players that succeed going to the tournament finale in December.
It’s expected 120 players will do so; making for a large and exciting finale. The top finishers will all be taking home a portion of the $75,000 giveaway.
Americas Cardroom might be taking the initiative here, but there’s very good reason for it. Of the 2.5 billion online gamers in the world (according to Newzoo’s Global Games Market Report 2019), Twitch accounts for 15 million users that are active on a daily basis.
That huge number of online gamers means the industry spends a little over $152 billion yearly. With the King of Twitch Poker tournament, Americas Cardroom is looking to capitalize on that massive opportunity.
